Composer / Szu-Hsien Lee

Szu-Hsien LEE received her PhD in Music Composition and Theory from University of California, Los Angeles in 2004. She studied primarily with Dr. Roger Bourland, Dr. David Lefkowitz, and Dr. Tsung-Hsien Yang. She is currently Assistant Professor at National Sun Yat-sen University in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Dr. Lee has received honors and recognition for her original compositions. She won the prize for Excellent Pieces in the contest held by Taipei City Traditional Chinese Orchestra in 1993, the first prize in the Music Taipei Composition Contest in 1998. In 2001, she was chosen as one of the Young Star Series by the National Chiang Kai-Shek Cultural Centre, R.O.C. Her compositions have been performed in Taiwan, Japan, USA, Germany, and many cities in China. Her works have also been played in the British-Taipei Cultural Exchange Concert 1997, and the International Music Festival held by Contemporary Chamber Orchestra Taipei in 1998, 2000, and 2001.

Dr. Lee is currently the resident composer of Baroque Camerata. Her music album Splendor— When Western Baroque Meets Taiwanese Folk Songs, the arrangements of Taiwanese folk songs for Baroque Camerata, was nominated for the Taiwan Gold Melody Award, 2007.
